Keeping Yourself Motivated To Exercise

It’s possible to have the best intentions when creating your fitness plan, however sticking to it can be an entirely different story. With an excuse around every corner, its time to get your mojo back, start feeling motivated, and enjoy the gym!

1.     Set a Goal

Have you ever heard the phrase – ‘what gets measured gets done’? Well when it comes to fitness its true! Sitting down and creating and achievable and timed plan is the best way to make sure you stay on track. If you say you’re going to build your fitness up to run 5k over 3 weeks you’re much more likely to be able to do that than if you just say that you’re ‘eventually’ going to be able to run 5k.

2.     Music, maestro!

A work out playlist can make all the difference to your motivation levels. Something upbeat, whatever you’re into. You might look sliiiightly silly miming your tunes whilst running on the treadmill, but if it gets you moving, WHO CARES?

3.     Find an exercise you enjoy

Last but not least, find something you ENJOY. With hundreds of exercise types to chose from, from football to rugby, dancing to Zumba, weightlifting to aqua fit! And lets not forget the daring alternatives such as outdoor swimming, pole fitness, and skiing!

4.     Jazzy work-out gear

Now, do not go out and spend hundreds of pounds on fancy work out gear in a last ditch attempt to get motivated. However, if you feel that a spruce up in that department would make you want to get in the gym and show off your new gear, its not a bad place to start.

5.     Work out with a friend

Coordinating your work out routine with a friend is a great way to stay on track. No-one likes letting people down, so if in order to skip the gym, you have to text your friend and bail, you’re less likely to skip!

6.     Progress Pictures

If you’re lacking motivation its important to remember where you started, and how far you’ve come! Taking progress pictures which you can flick back through, can really help you realise the impact the gym has had on your body.
